Chinese ain't easy!
Growing up in a small town in Vancouver, Canada, I was surrounded by Chinese men and women everywhere I went. Hell, even my mailman was Chinese. My wife and I decided to take up one hell of a opportunity and planned a trip to Xi An, China two years ago. I ended up staying there for a year and a half teaching children English.
The journey however, was not easy. I've searched on Craigslist, YellowPages, and even posted up flyers around my neighborhood to find myself an excellent and decently priced tutor to teach me simply the basics of the Chinese language.
My first tutor that I found barely spoke English and the second was charging me $90 Canadian dollars a lesson. I know, you're probably wondering why I didn't just register for a local Chinese school like everybody else does. Firstly, I did not want to attend class with 30 kids with me being the only adult. Second, I'm betting myself a lifetime that I'll just be asleep or fantasizing what my lunch would look like during class. I've searched everywhere and my wife finally introduced me to a product which she thought would be helpful. She has never been more right.
Rocket Chinese. Amazing value and price for what it offered.
Rocket Chinese is a DVD set with professional mentors that guides beginners like me starting from scratch. Me being half Spanish, I didn't know crap. The only phrases I knew was "Ni Hao" (Hello) and "Gong Xi Fa Cai" (Happy New Year).
I purchased the on-line version of this program with my wife. She has her own business and frequently deals with Chinese suppliers so she thought it would be helpful to have the ability to communicate with them in their native language. I was just getting started and this is definitely a work in progress, but I loved this program. It is easy to follow and makes learning a lot less frustrating than some of the other programs available.
Getting started is very easy and you can be speaking your first Chinese phrases within minutes. After spending a considerable amount of time researching the top rated language programs, I found the Rocket Chinese best suited my needs and learning style. I highly recommend this program to anybody Chinese or Caucasian, African or Italian. I mean it.
